General Membership Meeting
There were 60 people present at the January Membership meeting. This was a very good turnout for the membership meeting. Come out to support YOUR club!
6th Annual Wild Game Dinner for 2010
Plans are now being finalized for the 6th Annual Maybee Sportsman Club Wild Game Dinner that will be held on February 27, 2010. Tickets are sold out. There were 150 tickets available for the dinner. The cost is $30.00. It is time to start thinking about making donations of wild game for the next dinner. Venison or Elk quarters work well for the food preparers. We are looking for Venison, Elk, Rabbit, Pheasant, Squirrel, Duck, Goose, Salmon, Wild Boar, Bear, Etc. We are also looking for door prizes for the dinner. Anything in the way of sporting goods items or outdoor items would be appreciated. Contact Mike Jaworski at 734-587-2997 if you would like to donate wild game or any door prizes. Mike needs about 12 to 15 people to help out with the dinner on Saturday night. Give Mike a call if you can help.
Dues Are DUE!!!
Membership Dues are now due for 2010 and must be paid by January 31, 2010. Dues are $80.00 plus $10.00 for each work hour that you “do not” have “STAMPED” by a Director, Club Officer, or Committee Chairperson, on your club membership card. DO NOT include any money for the MUCC Magazine. The membership chairman will no longer be handling this. Dues may be paid by mail (see below). NEW MEMBERS cannot buy their hours in their first year of membership. You MUST work your hours for the first year of membership! If you are putting your dues in the safe at the club, please include your ORIGINAL membership card (NO COPIES) and include the correct amount of money due in an envelope marked “2010 Dues” on the outside. To pay by mail include your ORIGINAL membership card (NO COPIES) along with the correct amount of money due (check or money order) and mail them to Matthew Goodman, 4665 E. Newport Rd. Newport, MI 48166. If you haven’t paid your dues, this will be your last newsletter!
30-3D Archery Shoot At Maybee Sportsman
There will be a 30-3D Archery Shoot at Maybee Sportsman Sunday February 14 from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Help is needed Saturday for setup from 12:00 Noon until done. Help is also needed Sunday during the shoot and at the end of the shoot to pick up the targets and put them away. Steak Roast February 13th
Paul and Clyde Adkins and Martin Okkerse will host the February 13th Steak Roast. Help is always needed. 80 steaks will be purchased for the next dinner. Everyone is invited out to have a good time. The January 9th steak roast was hosted by Lee Schmitz and Tony Weatherholt. 60 dinners were sold at the January steak roast. Fred Kominek won the next free dinners. Thanks to Lee Schmitz and Tony Weatherholt, and all of the other helpers that made the January steak roast a success. The cost of a Steak Dinner is now $13.00. If you can host a Steak Roast or wish to help with one, please contact Dennis Williams @ 734-467-5282 and let him know that you would like to help out. If you are bringing a large group to the steak roast, contact Dennis Williams and let him know so that he may get extra steaks. Come out and support YOUR club!
Big Buck Contest
Mike Jaworski had a nice 7 point rack and the only set of antlers at the January meeting. Many members said that they wished they would have entered the contest before they went hunting. Mike also won the contest for best picture with a picture of 2 gay deer.
Varmint Shoot February 6th

Chili Cook-Off February 20th
The Chili Cook off for 2010 will be held February 20th Dennis Williams is the chairman for the event this year. The rules for this year are the same as last year in that you MUST cook your chili at the club. You may cook more than 1 entry. Join in for a full day of fun. There is no limit on how much or little chili you can make, just realize that you will need enough for the judging and the connoisseurs of fine chili to have a taste or a bowl. Judges are needed!!! We would like to have five judges but can make due with three judges if necessary. If you would like to be a judge or need other information, please contact Dennis Williams @ 734-467-5282. Judging will take place at 4:00 pm. The entry fee for this year remains at $5.00 with ½ going to the club and the other ½ to prize money. We will be paying out 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize just as in the past.
Audit Committee February 11, 2010
An audit committee was formed to audit the books from 2009. The committee chairman is John Durbin. The committee members are: Dave Bielat, Don Keck, John Kessler, Martin Okkerse, and Paul Wallace. The committee members need to contact John Durbin @ 734-242-2683. The committee will meet at the club February 11, 2010 at 6:00 PM. All committee chairpersons need to bring their books to the club to be audited February 11, 2010 at 6:00 PM.
MCCC Traveling Trap League
The MCCC traveling trap league held their first shoot of 2010 at the Maybee Sportsman Club. There were 154 shooters. The bar and kitchen did very well during the shoot. Unfortunately, we are tied for 6th place in the league. It will be hard to come back from a bad start like this. Come out to shoot and support your club. Our next shoot is February 14th at East Rockwood.
30-3D Archery Traveling League
The Archery Traveling League will shoot at Dundee February 28th and April 25th, Maybee Sportsman March 14th and June 6th, Monroe Rod & Gun March 21st and August 1st, Carleton Sportsman May 16th and August 15th, and Canvasback gun club April 11th and May 2nd. Indoor Archery League Starts Tuesday January 5th
The Indoor Archery League has started on Tuesday evening January 5th. There are 24 shooters. The cost is $40.00 per person. All handicaps apply. Military Rifle Shoot Saturday February 13th
The next Military Rifle Shoot will be held Saturday February 13th at 4:00 PM until finished. Starting in December, and for the months of January, February, and March, the Military Rifle Shoot will be held at 3:00 PM the 2nd Saturday of the month before the steak roast. Watch the calendar for any change in dates or times. The fee for the Military Rifle Shoot is $5.00 for club members and $6.00 for non-members with prize money paid. Any Military Rifle is allowed. The rifle used must be stock, open sights, and unmodified. We shoot 20 rounds of rifle and 5 rounds of handgun. The handgun must be stock with open sights and may be any caliber. Handgun is 5 shots @ 25 yards. Rifle is 10 rounds@ 50 yards and 10 rounds @ 100 yards on the rail or prone. We would like more shooters to participate. 4H Junior Travel Trap League
The 4H Junior Travel Trap League will shoot January 30th at Canvasback Sportsman Club from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. They will shoot February 13th at Dundee Sportsman Club, February 27th at Tri-County Sportsman Club, March 13th at Brest Bar Sportsman Club, March 27th at Carleton Sportsman Club, and April 24th is the banquet and fun shoot at Monroe Rod & Gun.
NRA Range Safety Officer Certification Class
If enough interest is shown in taking the NRA Range Safety Officer Certification Class, Donn Wobser will make arrangements to set up a class. For more information, contact Donn Wobser at 734-269-6394.
Welcome new members
We would like to welcome 2 new Associate members and 1 new junior member to the Maybee Sportsman Club. They are junior member Sarah Bielat and associate members Jay Close and Dale Dennison. Come out, meet the members, and participate in club activities such as Archery, Trap, Varmint League, and our famous Steak Roast Dinners.
Sponsoring New Members
When you sponsor new members, remember the dues are $80.00 per year and the initiation fee is $100.00 (NOTE THE NEW RATE) ($180.00 total). Make sure their money is included with their application and that the prospective new members know that they “MUST WORK” their hours the first year of membership. Applicants for Associate membership should show up at the meeting when they are being voted into the club or have a good reason why they can’t be there.
