            There were 56 people present at the December Membership meeting. Support YOUR club!   

When open trap is going on Sundays and Wednesday nights please do not use the benches on the rifle range back behind the 100 yard line.

            When you come out to the club for any event, make sure you sign the membership book located inside of the back room of the club. The club by-laws require you as a member to sign the book at least 12 times per year.   

            The Audit Committee has been formed to audit the books of the Directors and activity chairpersons for the year 2011. The committee members are Nick Bleau, Brett Fennelly, and Mike Hammond. Please bring all of your books to the club 1 hour before the January 2nd Directors meeting to have them audited. All books need to be audited before the January membership meeting.

            When the weather has been wet, DO NOT drive down the rifle range road even if the sign is not up.

Election of officers for 2012

The Election of officers took place on December 15, 2011 at the Membership meeting.  The new officers for 2012 are: President: Art Bleau, Vice President: Doug Gilson, Treasurer: Donn Wobser, Secretary: Dennis Goodman. Directors for 3 year term are: John Kessler, Martin Okkerse, and Jim Vincent Sr.

New Years Eve Party December 31st

There will be a New Years Eve Party held December 31st starting at 7:00 PM at the Maybee Sportsman Club. The party will be hosted by Art Bleau and Doug Gilson. Any member that plans to attend the New Years Eve party is asked to bring a dish to pass. The club will provide Turkey and Scalloped potatoes.

Dues Are DUE!!!

Membership Dues are now due for 2012 and must be paid by January 31, 2012.  Dues are $80.00 plus $10.00 for each work hour that you “do not” have “STAMPED” by a Director, Club Officer, or Committee Chairperson, on your club membership card.  When you pay your dues, you MUST present your membership card with your money. NO EXCEPTIONS! Dues may be paid at the January 19, 2012 membership meeting or by mail (see below). NEW MEMBERS cannot buy their hours in their first year of membership.  You MUST work your hours for the first year of membership!  If you are putting your dues in the safe at the club, please include your original membership card (NO COPIES) and include the correct amount of money due in an envelope marked “2012 Dues” on the outside.  To pay by mail include your original membership card (NO COPIES) along with the correct amount of money due (check or money order) and mail them to Matthew Goodman, 4665 E. Newport Rd. Newport, MI 48166.

Steak Roast January 14th

Lee Schmitz and Tony Weatherholt will host the January 14th Steak Roast. Help is always needed. 80 steaks will be purchased for the next dinner. The December steak roast was hosted by Art Bleau, Doug Gilson and the Directors.  112 Dinners were sold at the December steak roast. Thanks to Art Bleau, Doug Gilson, the Directors, and all of the other helpers that made the December steak roast a success. Dawn Wobser won the next free dinners. For new members in the club, a steak roast is not hard to host or to help with and it is an easy way to get your work hours in. The cost of a Steak Dinner is $13.00. If you can host a Steak Roast or wish to help with one, please contact Dennis Williams @ 734-467-5282 and let him know that you would like to help out. If you are bringing a large group to the steak roast, contact Dennis Williams and let him know so that he may get extra steaks.  Come out and support YOUR club!

 

Varmint Shoot January 7th  

The Varmint Shoot will be held January 7th at 10:00 AM.  Sign in from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM.  Center fire starts shooting @ 10:00 AM.  Contact Tom Gray @ 734-439-1976, Dave Rochon @ 734-461-6090 or Dennis Sisung @ 734-654-9747 for more details.

4 Wheeler Raffle

The tickets for the 4 wheeler drawing MUST BE TURNED IN BY THE NEW YEARS EVE PARTY. Raffle tickets for the 4 wheeler are still available. There will be 3 prizes awarded. 1st prize will be the 4 wheeler. 2nd prize will be $200.00 and 3rd prize will be $150.00. All tickets will be drawn at 8:00 PM, December 31st at the Maybee Sportsman Club New Years Eve Party. Contact Art Bleau @ 734-439-8306 to get tickets to sell or if you would like to purchase tickets.

Winter Indoor Archery League

The winter Indoor Archery League will start shooting Tuesday, January 10th at 7:00 PM. It will run for 10 weeks. The cost is $40.00 per person for club members and $50.00 per person for non-club members. They will shoot in 3 man teams the same as last year. Concealed Pistol License Class Jan. 21st and Jan. 22nd                     

There are still openings for the concealed pistol license class to be held on Saturday January 21st and Sunday January 22nd at the club.  You must attend both days to get your certificate. Saturday January 21st will be classroom instruction from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sunday January 22nd will be live fire on the range from 9:30 AM to12:30 PM and 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. You MUST own your own pistol to take this class.  The cost is $100.00 for non-members of the Maybee Sportsman Club and $50.00 for members of the Maybee Sportsman Club.  A simple lunch will be available for a fee. Big Buck Contest

We have 20 people signed up so far. The rules for this year are: The deer must be taken in Michigan (tags will be checked).  Antlers must be presented at the January 19th Membership meeting for judging or verified by at least one board member if the antlers cannot be brought in.  The antlers will be judged for the number of points and the largest outside spread.  The contest is open to Club Members Only”.  The 1st prize award will be ½ of the total entry money.  2nd prize this year will be given for best picture taken at deer camp, while hunting, or with a deer (dead or alive).

8th Annual Michigan Hunters Dinner for 2012

Plans are now being made for the 8th Annual Maybee Sportsman Club Michigan Hunters Dinner that will be held on February 25, 2012.  Tickets will be available in January.  There will be 150 tickets available for the dinner.  The cost is $30.00 per dinner.   It is time to start thinking about making donations of wild game for the next dinner.  Venison or Elk quarters work well for the food preparers.  We are looking for Venison, Elk, Rabbit, Pheasant, Squirrel, Duck, Goose, Salmon, Wild Boar, Bear, Etc.  We are also looking for door prizes for the dinner.  Anything in the way of sporting goods items or outdoor items would be appreciated.  Contact Mike Jaworski at 734-587-2997 if you would like to donate wild game or any door prizes.

Military Rifle Shoot Saturday January 14th    

There will be a Military Rifle Shoot each month. The Saturday shoot is at 4:00 PM before the steak roast. Contact Dennis Sisung @ 734-654-9747 for details. Watch the calendar for any change in dates or times.  The fee for the Military Rifle Shoot is $5.00 for club members and $6.00 for non-members with prize money paid.  Any Military Rifle is allowed.  The rifle used must be stock, open sights, and unmodified. We shoot 20 rounds of rifle and 5 rounds of handgun. The handgun must be stock with open sights and may be any caliber. Handgun is 5 shots @ 25 yards. Rifle is 10 rounds @ 50 yards and 10 rounds @ 100 yards on the rail or prone. We would like more shooters to participate.

Club Apparel

Club apparel is in the showcase!  Martin Okkerse has taken over the duties of club apparel.  Decals of the club logo are now available for $6.00. A good stock of shirts from Medium to 2XL is on hand.  There are also 2 Extra Large jackets in stock. See the club website for pricing on club apparel. Contact Martin Okkerse before 8:00 PM at 734-587-3566 or see him at the Membership meetings to order shirts, hats, jackets, or any other items that you may want embroidered with the club logo. There is a price list posted at the showcase.

Sponsoring New Members

When you sponsor new members, remember the dues are $80.00 per year and the initiation fee is $100.00 (NOTE THE NEW RATE) ($180.00 total).  Make sure their money is included with their application and that the prospective new members know that they MUST WORK their hours the first year of membership. Applicants for Associate membership should show up at the meeting when they are being voted into the club or have a good reason why they can’t be there.
